3-Day Virtual World Building Workshop with Ana Maria Millan

Publication Cover

As part of CARA’s Spring exhibition, and we learn to keep the soil wet, we’re pleased to be hosting Monster Monster, a 3-day workshop for those interested in avatar role-play, virtual world-building, and fictional character development. Led by Spring show artist Anna Maria Millan, this workshop will explore possibilities of communal storytelling through animation and games.

The call for participants is now closed.

This workshop will take place at CARA from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, March 21, Wednesday, March 22, and Friday, March 24. It is open to adults and teens 15+. We specifically hope this workshop will be a space for accessible gaming. All materials will be provided.

Ana Maria Millan’s work addresses the politics of the animation and technique in relation to digital cultures and subcultures, gender and propaganda. She has developed techniques based on role playing, reenactment and ideas about animation as methodology to make a series of plays that end in the form of narrative films. It speaks from amateur cultures, pop political culture, sound territories, nature and technology, incorporating the possibilities and mistakes of the rehearsals, and narrative forms considered dysfunctional.
